Russian Naval Commander-in-Chief Aleksandr Moiseev recently visited New Delhi to meet with Indian Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi and discuss ways to strengthen defense and maritime cooperation between the two nations. This meeting followed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Moscow where ties, including in the military domain, were expanded.
The Indian Navy highlighted the importance of the visit, emphasizing the longstanding relationship between the Russian and Indian navies. Discussions between Admiral Moiseev and India’s chief of defense staff aimed at enhancing maritime security and fostering a stronger defense partnership.
Russia has been a key defense partner for India, supplying warships, submarines, and maritime technologies. The Indian Navy is set to receive two Russian-built guided-missile frigates as part of a four-ship deal signed in 2018. These frigates, armed with BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, signify a significant advancement in India’s naval capabilities.
Furthermore, India is anticipating the delivery of the remaining squadrons of the S-400 Triumph air defense missile systems from Russia, solidifying their defense cooperation despite external pressure.
