Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif introduced the Apna Chhat Apna Ghar (our roof, our house) housing scheme, offering interest-free loans of up to Rs1.5m for building houses in urban and rural areas. The initiative aims to provide affordable housing for landowners and reduce homelessness in the region.
In addition to the housing scheme, CM Maryam also announced a reduction in electricity bills for consumers using 200-500 units per month, causing tension with coalition partners. She highlighted the importance of homes as a basic necessity and emphasized the government’s commitment to providing relief to the people of Punjab.
The loan structure allows for repayment over seven years, with a maximum monthly installment of Rs14,000. Interested individuals can apply online through the PITB portal or by calling 080009100 for assistance.
The houses built under the scheme will include two bedrooms, a TV lounge, a bathroom, and a kitchen, catering to the needs of low-income families. CM Maryam plans to expand the scheme throughout Punjab to ensure housing accessibility for all in need.
