Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently chaired a meeting to address the issue of smuggling in Pakistan. Expressing satisfaction over the reduction in smuggling activities, he instructed relevant institutions to accelerate their efforts and completely eliminate this menace.

The government has launched various initiatives to curb smuggling, including a countrywide campaign targeting items like petroleum products, cigarettes, gold, and more. A notable achievement is the launch of a web portal to track smuggling activities of urea and sugar.

The anti-smuggling drive led to the confiscation of goods worth Rs106 billion, significantly reducing hoarding practices. The meeting also highlighted the significant reduction in the smuggling of essential commodities and petroleum products.

Overall, the PM’s directives aim to strengthen enforcement measures and create a comprehensive strategy to combat smuggling effectively.

Key officials and ministers attended the meeting, reflecting a united effort to tackle this pressing issue.
