Northern Nigeria’s prominent leaders are gearing up for a crucial summit aimed at rejuvenating the region’s political and economic influence before the 2027 elections. The League of Northern Democrats, composed of former governors, senators, and other notable figures from the region, unveiled this initiative in Abuja on Tuesday.
The summit in Kaduna will focus on addressing the region’s political direction, economic growth, and security challenges. Following the 2023 general election, power shifted back to the southern part of the country after eight years under former President Muhammadu Buhari, a northerner.
Notable figures from the North plan to come together to discuss and tackle the region’s issues, including security concerns raised by the recent #Endbadgovernance protests. The aim is to produce a comprehensive document outlining solutions to the North’s challenges, independent of political affiliations and timeline constraints.
