NGOs urge ban on UK arms sales to Israel over Gaza

A group of NGOs is calling for an arms embargo on Israel by the UK government in response to the devastating attacks on Gaza, which have resulted in over 40,000 deaths. Lawyers have presented a case to the high court in London, detailing accounts of Palestinians being tortured and denied medical treatment during Israel’s assaults on Gaza. The case includes 14 witness statements from medical workers and aid workers in Gaza, providing evidence of alleged Israeli war crimes.

The lawyers representing the NGOs, including Al-Haq, Amnesty International, and Oxfam, are seeking to stop the UK government from granting arms export licenses to British companies selling weapons to Israel. Despite mounting evidence of war crimes, the UK government continues to export arms to Israel, totaling over £576 million since 2008. Activists are urging the government to halt all arms sales to Israel and reevaluate its licensing process to prevent further violations of international humanitarian law.
