Morocco Enhances Military Capabilities with Purchase of HIMARS Rocket Launchers
Recently, “Defense Web,” a site focusing on military affairs and arms deals, reported on the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces’ acquisition of the American “HIMARS” rocket launchers and “ATACMS” tactical ballistic missiles from Lockheed Martin. The United States approved a deal worth over $750 million for this equipment last year, which includes 18 “M142 HIMARS” rocket launchers, along with various supporting vehicles and equipment.
Morocco plans to arm the HIMARS system with advanced missiles, such as the tactical “M57-ATACMS” and “M31A2-GMLRS,” which have impressive ranges and precision strike capabilities. This acquisition will not only enhance Morocco’s military capabilities but also make it the first North African country to possess the HIMARS rocket system. The system will complement the Chinese-made rocket launchers already in Morocco’s arsenal.
This strategic acquisition demonstrates Morocco’s commitment to maintaining a strong defense and security infrastructure, positioning itself as a key player in the region’s military landscape.
