The US Democratic Party government’s backing of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s Gaza plan, just ahead of the US presidential election, is creating a de facto division in an already fractured Palestinian territory. Netanyahu’s plan, supported by the US, aims to split Gaza into two parts, severing its connection with the outside world without any guarantee of a permanent cease-fire.

Since October 7, the ongoing Israeli attacks in Gaza have led to the deaths of over 40,000 Palestinians, with many still trapped under the rubble. The Biden administration introduced a Gaza plan to ease tensions domestically and internationally, but Netanyahu introduced new conditions that would maintain Israeli military occupation in Gaza, effectively dividing the region and isolating it from the rest of the world.
