The Iranian parliament recently granted a vote of confidence to all 19 ministerial nominees of newly elected President Masoud Pezeshkian. This paves the way for the formation of a new cabinet in Iran.
Pezeshkian, a former reformist lawmaker, defeated his conservative opponent in a runoff vote and was formally sworn in on July 31. Among the approved ministers is Abbas Araghchi, who will serve as the foreign minister, succeeding Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
Before the vote of confidence, Pezeshkian urged lawmakers to approve his reformist nominees, emphasizing the need for cohesion and unity across all political factions. He also expressed his commitment to reopening communication channels with the West, despite recent tensions following the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
Although Iran blames Israel and the US for the attack, Pezeshkian remains focused on overcoming challenges and moving forward with his plans for the country’s future.
