Hong Kong customs officers recently made a unique discovery during a raid on three chain stores. Instead of toys, the claw machines in these stores were filled with approximately 3,000 fake brand-name perfume products, a first for the department. These counterfeit products, bearing luxury brand labels like Chanel and Dior, had a street value of HK$120,000.
The stores in Kwai Chung and Tsuen Wan were targeted, resulting in the arrest of a shop owner and an employee. The seized perfumes, housed in misleading bottles different from official ones, were sold to customers claiming to be genuine samples at discounted prices.
The operation also confiscated six claw machines, worth around HK$60,000, and a total of 5,000 counterfeit products from 10 shops. The seized items raised health and safety concerns since they were intended for skin use, prompting further testing by authorities.
