Ho Iat Seng, the current chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), has announced that he will not seek re-election in the upcoming election scheduled for October.
In a statement released on the SAR government’s website, Ho cited health reasons for his decision, stating that despite his strong commitment to Macao’s development, his health concerns prevent him from continuing in office for another term.
The nomination period for candidates in the upcoming election will run from August 29 to September 12, with the election day set for October 13.
Ho was first elected as the chief executive of the Macao SAR in 2019, and each term in office lasts for five years.
