Argentina is set to join the Minerals Security Partnership led by the US, aiming to attract more investment in critical-minerals mining. The initiative, which already includes 14 countries and the European Union, seeks to reduce dependence on China for minerals used in electric vehicle batteries and solar panels.

With vast resources of copper and lithium, Argentina has much potential for mining projects. President Javier Milei’s government will announce the country’s participation during a visit by US Under Secretary of State Jose Fernandez. However, aligning with the US may be challenging due to Argentina’s strong trade ties with China.

The partnership will connect foreign investors with mining opportunities in Argentina while ensuring compliance with environmental standards. Despite the country’s exclusion from certain incentives for lithium production under US law, officials are eager to attract investments for resource development.
