Bangladesh’s Interim Government Pledges Support for Rohingya Refugees and Garment Trade
Bangladesh’s interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus, announced its commitment to supporting the Rohingya refugee population and the vital garment export trade in the country. Yunus emphasized the need for continued international assistance to ensure the well-being and eventual repatriation of over a million Rohingya people sheltered in Bangladesh since fleeing Myanmar in 2017.
Furthermore, Yunus reassured the global community of Bangladesh’s dedication to maintaining its position in the clothing supply chain, with 3,500 garment factories contributing significantly to the country’s annual exports. Despite challenges following political unrest, Yunus vowed to uphold stability in the industry.
Appointed as the leader of the interim government after the previous administration’s fall, Yunus aims to uphold stability while addressing critical issues affecting Bangladesh’s economy and refugee population.
