The US Embassy in Israel released a photo of Blinken and Netanyahu in West Jerusalem. Netanyahu reiterated Israel’s commitment to the updated American proposal for a hostage release that considers security needs.
Blinken is also set to meet with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant before ending his visit with a press conference. Prior to the meeting, Blinken emphasized the importance of reaching a deal during his talks with Israeli President Isaac Herzog.
Efforts to reach an agreement between Israel and Hamas have faced obstacles, with Hamas accusing Netanyahu of setting new conditions that hinder progress. The US, Qatar, and Egypt have been mediating the talks to allow for a prisoner exchange and humanitarian aid into Gaza.
The situation in Gaza remains dire, with thousands of Palestinians killed and injured, and the region in ruins amid a blockade. Israel faces accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice for its military operations.
