A lobby group spent nearly £28,000 on a solidarity visit to Israel for former British Home Secretary Suella Braverman, following her dismissal by the prime minister. The National Jewish Assembly funded Braverman’s four-night trip, covering flights and accommodation costs.
With a focus on promoting Jewish life, supporting Israel, and combatting antisemitism, the National Jewish Assembly serves as a liaison between British Jewry and the government. The visit took place in April 2024, months after Braverman’s controversial removal for criticizing London’s Metropolitan Police.
During her tenure, Braverman faced scrutiny for potentially banning Palestinian flags at protests and censoring calls for Palestinian liberation. Despite labeling protests against Israel’s actions as “hateful,” she urged police to consider context when assessing the display of Palestinian symbols.
While advocating against Hamas support, a proscribed terrorist group in the UK, Braverman emphasized the importance of distinguishing between legitimate and problematic behaviors at public events.
