The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, emphasized that the United States, as a non-party to the South China Sea issue, does not have the right to interfere in the maritime disputes between China and the Philippines. She addressed this during a press conference in response to U.S. criticism of China’s actions following an incident involving Philippine Coast Guard vessels intruding into Chinese waters near Xianbin Jiao.

Mao reiterated that the Philippines was the first to violate China’s rights, and China’s measures to protect its territorial sovereignty are legitimate. She stressed that the U.S. should not intervene in maritime issues between China and the Philippines, nor should it use their defense treaty to infringe on China’s sovereignty in the South China Sea.

The spokesperson urged the U.S. to cease provoking conflicts, preserve regional stability, and reduce tensions in the area. It is crucial to respect each country’s sovereignty in maritime matters for peaceful coexistence.
