Amid the nationwide protests regarding the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor in Kolkata, the CBI has appointed two senior female officers to assist with the case.
Sampat Meena, an Additional Director at the CBI, will lead the 24-member team investigating the incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Meena, recognized for her work on high-profile cases like the 2020 Hathras rape-murder, will be joined by Seema Pahuja, also known for her role in the Hathras investigation.
Pahuja, currently an Additional Superintendent with the CBI and a Police Medal recipient, will handle the ground-level investigation in Kolkata.
The trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty, leading to the arrest of a civic volunteer by the Kolkata Police.
Following a court order, the CBI commenced its probe into the case and was granted permission for a polygraph test on the accused, Sanjay Roy.
Roy’s narco test is crucial due to inconsistencies in his statements, raising speculations about the involvement of more individuals in the crime.
