Taoiseach assures farmers on land tax concerns.

The Taoiseach, Simon Harris, has assured that no active farmer will have to pay the residential zoned land tax under his leadership. Addressing reporters in Dublin, he discussed potential plans to defer the tax in the upcoming budget and create a new scheme to protect farmers from being taxed.

The residential land tax is aimed at individuals with large land banks zoned for residential development, potentially including some farmers. However, the Taoiseach emphasized that active farmers should not be penalized by this tax and that the Government is working to ensure fairness in its application.

On a separate issue, Mr. Harris outlined the Government’s approach to accommodating asylum seekers on State-owned land, highlighting the global challenges of migration that need to be addressed at EU level. He underscored the importance of proper engagement with communities when dealing with unauthorized tented situations, indicating a more proactive response compared to past incidents.
