Title: Ukraine Approves Swedish Infantry Fighting Vehicles for Delivery
Ukraine recently announced the approval of Sweden’s Pansarbandvagn 302 (PBV 302) for delivery to its armed forces, as part of Stockholm’s $1.3 billion military aid package for Ukraine. The infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) are set to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities, with around 300 of these vehicles expected to be in the hands of the Ukrainian army soon.
While the PBV 302 may be old, having been in service since 1966, the vehicles have been refurbished and repurposed for Ukraine’s needs. Despite its age, the PBV 302 offers some impressive features, such as the ability to traverse rough terrain and a 20 mm cannon for firepower.
In comparison to more modern IFVs like the Combat Vehicle 90 (CV90), the PBV 302 may seem outdated. However, with plans for joint production of CV90s between Sweden and Ukraine, the Ukrainian army is set to receive a significant upgrade in its armored vehicle capabilities. Until then, the PBV 302, along with the U.S.-made Bradleys, will help fill the gap in Ukraine’s IFV fleet.
