The world recently bid farewell to Maria Branyas Morera, the oldest person on the planet at the age of 117. Maria, who was born in the United States, lived a remarkable life that spanned two world wars and various other historical events.
Guinness World Records officially recognized Maria as the oldest living person in January 2023, following the passing of French nun Lucile Randon at the age of 118. Maria’s family announced her peaceful passing on social media, honoring her advice and kindness.
Maria lived through various global crises, including the 1918 flu, World War I, and World War II. She even battled and recovered from Covid-19 in 2020, showcasing her resilience and strength.
Described as an “endearing woman” by those who knew her, Maria attributed her longevity to genetics and living a simple, fulfilling life. Despite facing hardships early in life, Maria remained resilient and lived a full, meaningful existence. Her legacy as Catalonia’s grandmother will forever be remembered by those whose lives she touched.
