PM Shehbaz Urges Other Provinces to Follow Punjab’s Lead in Power Relief Packages
PM Shehbaz Sharif has urged other provincial governments to emulate the Punjab government and announce power relief packages for their residents. The recent package announced by Punjab focuses on electricity consumers using 200 to 500 units monthly, with no contribution from the federal government.
With Rs 45 billion allocated for this relief initiative, PM Shehbaz emphasized that other provinces should also step up and provide similar benefits to their citizens. He highlighted the availability of resources through the NFC for development projects.
The federal government is collaborating with provincial authorities on a comprehensive reform plan for various sectors, including power, agriculture, and digitalization. PM Shehbaz also mentioned a Rs 50 billion subsidy for electricity consumers nationwide, covering 86% of users.
Efforts to stabilize the economy and address recent damages caused by monsoon rains were also discussed, along with plans for further relief schemes. The Punjab government’s solar panel initiative, aimed at reducing electricity bills, was lauded by former PM Nawaz Sharif, who praised CM Maryam Nawaz for her efforts in providing relief to low-income households.
