Remembering Humanitarian Heroes in South Sudan
The US Embassy in South Sudan honored the 20 humanitarian workers who lost their lives in the country in the past year on World Humanitarian Day. In a moving tribute, the embassy extended its gratitude to all aid workers who risked their lives to assist those in crisis globally.
Despite significant challenges, dedicated South Sudanese and foreign humanitarian workers continue to provide life-saving assistance in the country. The Embassy called on the Transitional Government to facilitate safe humanitarian access and reduce the costs of delivering aid.
With around 9 million people in South Sudan in need of assistance, the US has contributed over US$508 million this year, making it the largest provider of relief aid in the country. This support demonstrates the ongoing commitment of the US to stand with the South Sudanese people in their time of need.
