Divers bravely descended 50 meters below the sea surface to the wreck of a yacht off the coast of Sicily in search of six missing people. While 15 were rescued, one man was found dead and the remaining are still missing. Among the missing are notable figures like Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of Morgan Stanley International, British-Irish tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch, his daughter, and lawyer Chris Morvillo. Lynch had recently been acquitted of an $11 billion fraud charge and had invited friends to celebrate, including Bloomer who was a defense witness.
The search for the missing has been hindered by the sudden change in weather that caused the yacht to sink. Violent winds and a waterspout struck the coast, leading to the tragic incident. The operation to locate the missing individuals is challenging due to the depth of the wreck, with divers only able to work for 12-minute shifts. Despite the difficulties, the rescue teams are tirelessly working to find those who are still unaccounted for.
