The Israeli military successfully recovered the bodies of six captives from Gaza during a recent overnight operation. The captives, who were identified as Avraham Munder, Chaim Peri, Yoram Metzger, Alex Dancyg, Nadav Popplewell, and Yagev Buchshtab, were taken alive on October 7. Hamas had previously claimed the deaths of five captives due to Israeli strikes.
The operation took place in Khan Yunis, where no fighting occurred, and Israeli defense officials believe the captives died in the same location where their bodies were found. The bodies were returned to Israel, while 109 captives remain in captivity.
An Israeli military spokesperson mentioned that investigations into the circumstances of the deaths are ongoing, with findings to be shared with the families and the public. The mounting pressure on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stems from the deaths of captives during Israeli raids and bombings in Gaza.
