Israel Calls Back Reservists Due to Troop Shortage
Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has ordered the Israeli army to recall reservists released in recent years to address a shortage of troops. The decision comes as part of a plan to bolster forces amid increased activity.
The army has begun contacting exempted reservists within the eligible age for service in essential units. The goal is to reenlist 15,000 previously excused reservists who are below the exemption age.
10,000 Additional Soldiers Needed
Gallant highlighted the urgent need for 10,000 more soldiers, suggesting a recruitment drive including 4,800 ultra-Orthodox males. Recent legal changes mandate ultra-Orthodox Jews to undergo military draft, leading to clashes.
