Germany’s Federal Court of Justice (BGH) has confirmed the conviction of a 99-year-old former concentration camp secretary for complicity in the murder of over 10,000 people. The woman, known as Irmgard F., worked at the Stutthof death camp during World War II, where an estimated 65,000 people died, including Jewish prisoners, Polish partisans, and Soviet Russian POWs.
Key Details of the Case
In 2022, Irmgard F. was sentenced to two years’ probation for her role in thousands of murders and attempted murders. The crimes were committed when she was just 18 to 19 years old, leading to her trial in a juvenile court. Despite the defense’s claims of her innocence due to lack of awareness of the killings, the court upheld her conviction.
In a dramatic turn of events in 2021, Irmgard F. was apprehended trying to evade her trial by escaping from her care facility. This case serves as a stark reminder of the atrocities committed during the Holocaust and the ongoing pursuit of justice for the victims.
