Gabon’s interim leader enforces strict holiday measures on Guardian Nigeria News.

Gabon’s interim president, Gen. Oligui Nguema, has implemented a new rule prohibiting members of his transitional government from taking holidays abroad. The restriction also includes a limit of one week’s holiday leave for government officials. This announcement, made on state television, comes just before the first anniversary of the coup, leading to heightened scrutiny of the junta’s performance.

The goal of the holiday restrictions is to promote a deeper connection between government officials and the people they serve. Exceptions will only be granted in cases of “force majeure” or health reasons.

There is speculation that Nguema may be positioning himself to run for president in the upcoming election, following his takeover from his cousin Ali Bongo. Despite efforts to assure the public of his government’s intentions, Nguema has not confirmed his candidacy for the 2025 polls.
