Attica restoration: Govt’s plan for fire-stricken region

The government has launched a comprehensive plan for the restoration of fire-damaged areas in northeastern Attica, with PM Mitsotakis meeting key authorities in Penteli to discuss the initiatives. The plan includes a special forest recovery project and the “Greening My Garden – Greening Penteli” program for cleaning up burned private gardens. Municipalities affected by the fire will receive emergency grants from the Ministry of the Interior to cover public spaces. Citizens and businesses can now apply for financial aid for property damage. The Natural Environment & Climate Change Agency and forest services are developing a fire protection and recovery plan for Attica by the end of September, including comprehensive management plans for forests and mountainous areas. Reforestation projects for 58,340 acres in Attica are already underway, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund. Fire prevention studies are also in progress nationwide, with over 2.1 billion euros allocated for civil protection systems and infrastructure upgrades.
