Anambra vows to demolish unapproved buildings

Uncertified developers and quack builders in Anambra State are facing demolition of their structures due to the state’s efforts to prevent building collapses caused by poor construction practices. The Chairman of the Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Chike Maduekwe, made this announcement during an inspection in Abatete, Uke, and Umuoji communities.

Maduekwe also warned against extortion by individuals claiming to be part of regulating bodies and urged them to stop fraudulent activities. Reports show that over 20 buildings have collapsed in the past seven months, leading to deaths and injuries, mostly due to unqualified builders.

The state government has initiated ‘Operation show your building permit’ to sanitize the sector and ensure compliance with building regulations. The grace period for developers to present their permits without penalty ends on October 31. Any structure without a permit will face demolition and legal action.

Developers are reminded to follow the law, as the government will not tolerate non-compliance. Building without approval will result in demolition and legal consequences. It’s time for developers to act responsibly and follow the regulations to avoid penalties.
