In a daring move, Ukrainian drones targeted an oil storage facility in Russia’s Rostov region, causing a massive fuel fire. Videos circulated on social media captured the intense flames and thick black smoke billowing from the site in Proletarsk, as confirmed by Governor Vasily Golubev.
The attack, which took place early Sunday morning, was met with air defense systems that repelled the drones. Despite the fire outbreak, no injuries were reported, and firefighting efforts quickly resumed after a brief pause due to a second drone attack.
The Ukrainian army claimed responsibility for the assault on the “Kavkaz” oil and petroleum storage facility, citing its role in supplying the Russian occupation army. This incident adds to a series of retaliatory strikes by Ukraine targeting Russian energy infrastructure since the conflict began in 2022.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has commended the attacks on oil facilities in Russia, viewing them as a means to bring a “just end” to the ongoing conflict. As tension escalates, Ukraine has also launched a cross-border assault into Russia’s Kursk region, seizing control of numerous settlements.
