The controversy surrounding the investigation into the rape and murder of a young doctor in West Bengal has escalated, with TMC leaders accusing the CBI of remaining silent to allow the BJP to attack the state government. Despite this, senior TMC leader Kunal Ghosh voluntarily provided information to the CBI. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has demanded swift justice and the death penalty for the perpetrator(s). The accused, Sanjay Roy, is currently in police custody.
Banerjee had initially given the Kolkata Police a deadline of August 18 to solve the case, but the High Court directed the CBI to take over the investigation on August 13. The CBI has since been questioning suspects and visiting crime scenes, including the victim’s residence. There are suspicions of a larger conspiracy involving multiple individuals.
It is crucial for the CBI to provide updates on the investigation and ensure a transparent and speedy resolution to bring justice to the victim’s family and the people of West Bengal. The pressure is on for the central agency to deliver results as the case progresses.
