Tech tycoon Mike Lynch missing off Italy – who is he?

Renowned technology tycoon Mike Lynch, founder of Autonomy, is one of six tourists missing after a luxury yacht sank off the coast of Italy. Lynch, often compared to Bill Gates for his entrepreneurial success, negotiated an $11 billion sale of Autonomy to HP, which later led to legal troubles. After a 13-year legal saga, Lynch was cleared of fraud charges in June. The OBE recipient and former BBC board member had spent 13 months under house arrest awaiting trial.

Descent of Irish heritage, Lynch advised David Cameron on technological matters, such as AI development. Despite a tumultuous journey, Lynch was vindicated by his acquittal, denying any wrongdoing while criticizing HP’s management.

Originally from Co Tipperary or Essex, conflicting reports surround Lynch’s birthplace. Recently reported missing after the yacht incident, he is among four British and two American tourists yet to be found. Lynch’s career and legal battles reflect a story of resilience amid adversity.
