Supreme Court reserves judgment in Murtala Ajaka’s appeal – The Guardian Nigeria

The Supreme Court reserved judgment in the appeal filed by Murtala Ajaka, candidate of the SDP in the Kogi governorship election, against tribunal and Appeal Court decisions. Ajaka’s request for a full panel was declined, and the five-member panel proceeded with the hearing. Lawyers for the respondents opposed the application, arguing that a five-man panel could handle the appeal.

The court received arguments from both sides, with Ajaka’s counsel urging the court to set aside the Appeal Court judgment and declare Ajaka as the elected governor. The respondents urged the court to dismiss the appeal, citing the appellant’s acknowledgment of the election’s invalidity. The court reserved judgment on the case to a later date.

This development highlights the ongoing legal battle over the Kogi governorship election results, with both parties presenting their arguments before the Supreme Court for a final decision.
