Scotland has decided to suspend all meetings with Israeli diplomats until there is “real progress” made towards a cease-fire in Gaza and the unobstructed delivery of humanitarian aid in the blockaded enclave. This decision was announced by External Affairs Secretary Angus Robertson, who emphasized the Scottish government’s stance on peace in Gaza.
Following a recent meeting between Robertson and Israel’s Deputy Ambassador to the U.K. Daniela Grudsky, criticism within the Scottish National Party (SNP) arose. Robertson clarified that the meeting was intended to express the need for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza and not to legitimize the actions of the Israeli government.
Robertson highlighted that there would be no further meetings with Israeli diplomats until significant progress is made towards a cease-fire. The Scottish government stands firm on condemning the atrocities in Gaza and supporting a two-state solution for Palestine.
Former Scottish First Minister Humza Yousaf praised Robertson’s decision, acknowledging that there cannot be normal relations with the Government of Israel until the situation in Gaza improves.
