Supreme Court to Hear Punjab Government’s Application on August 22
The Supreme Court has set August 22 as the date for hearing the urgent application filed by the Punjab government to omit certain portions from the verdict in the Mubarak Ahmad Sani case, announced on July 24. The application, filed through the prosecutor general of Punjab, highlights the need for correction in the judgement based on requests from leading clerics and parliament members.
The three-page application points out specific paragraphs that require omission and correction, citing the binding precedents of the Federal Shariat Court’s 1985 case and the Supreme Court’s 1993 verdict. The application requests amendments to the July 24 judgement under relevant legal provisions.
In an earlier judgement on August 17, the Supreme Court emphasized the importance of the finality of the prophethood of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as the foundation of Islam. The upcoming hearing will address the concerns raised by religious scholars and address any discrepancies in the previous judgement.
