Reviving Hope for Iran’s Nuclear Program with New Government: Speaking at a press conference in Tehran, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Nasser Kanaani, expressed optimism about the country’s nuclear program under the new government. Discussions have been underway to restore the Comprehensive Plan of Joint Action, with all parties showing commitment to the plan.
Kanaani highlighted the pledges of Abbas Araghchi, the proposed foreign minister, to align with the strategic action plan approved by Iran’s parliament. The Joint Action Plan, initially signed in 2016 with the P5+1 group, faced challenges in 2018 when the US withdrew and imposed sanctions on Iran.
In response, Iran took measures to counter the sanctions, suspending certain provisions of the nuclear deal in 2020. By February 23, Iran decreased IAEA monitoring by 20-30% as part of their strategic response.
