The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, recently inaugurated 169 officers of the newly established Special Intervention Squad to combat banditry, kidnapping, and other crimes in Nigeria. The IG emphasized the squad’s importance in enhancing operational strategies and filling critical gaps in the current police system, aiming to provide rapid response and high-impact interventions.
The officers underwent comprehensive training in advanced tactical operations, intelligence gathering, crisis negotiation, and community engagement. Egbetokun expressed gratitude to various organizations, including the United States Embassy and the United Nations, for their support. He urged the officers to approach their duties with determination, integrity, and a commitment to upholding professional standards.
Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, highlighted the seven-week training program, concluding at the Police Mobile Force Training College in Nasarawa State. Minister of State for Police Affairs, Imman Suleiman, commended the IG’s efforts to enhance national security, with Governor Abdullahi Sule pledging continued support for police initiatives in Nasarawa State.
