PM Modi honors Tripura king Bir Bikram Manikya

On the birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to the architect of modern Tripura. Maharaja Bir Bikram ruled Tripura from 1923 to 1947, leaving a lasting impact on the state’s development and welfare measures for tribal communities. Modi lauded the Maharaja’s commitment to empowering the poor and downtrodden, pledging to continue fulfilling his vision for Tripura’s progress.

During the commemoration event in Agartala, Chief Minister Manik Saha praised Modi for recognizing the contributions of the Manikya dynasty and honoring Maharajas who played a significant role in the northeastern state’s development. Saha highlighted the Prime Minister’s gesture of unveiling a statue of Maharaja Birbikram at Agartala airport and renaming the facility in his honor.

Saha emphasized the need to unify tribals and non-tribals to create a more prosperous Tripura, mentioning the historical impact of the Partition on the state and the loss of territories like Chakla Roshanabad to East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). By acknowledging the legacy of Maharaja Bir Bikram and advocating for unity, Tripura aims to transform into a more inclusive and progressive state.
