A US-supplied HIMARS system was likely employed in a “terrorist attack” in Russia’s Kursk Region, the Foreign Ministry has said.
On Friday, the Ukrainian military used Western-made munitions to target civilian infrastructure in Russia’s Kursk Region for the first time, escalating tensions since troops were sent into what is recognized as Russian territory on August 6. Previously, HIMARS attacks were only conducted in regions formerly part of Ukraine.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that Western-made rockets, likely from an American HIMARS, destroyed a bridge in the Glushkovsky District of the Kursk Region, resulting in casualties among volunteers assisting with evacuations. The acting governor of the region also confirmed the destruction of the bridge.
The Defense Ministry in Moscow reported that Russian forces have eliminated at least three HIMARS systems operated by Ukrainian troops since the incursion into the Kursk Region. These events highlight the ongoing conflict, with Moscow detailing significant losses on the Ukrainian side in terms of troops and military equipment.
