EFF president Julius Malema recently announced significant changes within the party’s leadership, with Marshall Dlamini taking over as the chief whip in parliament after former deputy president Floyd Shivambu’s resignation. Malema expressed his disappointment during a meeting with party members in Soweto, also appointing Sinawo Tambo to replace Shivambu in parliament and Nazier Paulsen to replace Jimmy Manyi.
Malema made it clear that the party’s government task unit, previously led by Shivambu, would be dissolved. He emphasized that any government deployments on behalf of the EFF would now require approval from the president’s office and mentioned plans to dismantle programmes associated with Shivambu’s office. These changes come after Shivambu’s surprising exit from the party, which he co-founded with Malema in 2013.
