Great news from Gaza! IDF International Spokesperson Nadav Shoshani announced that 90% of the population in Gaza has been vaccinated against polio in the first quarter of 2024. This effort, coordinated by COGAT, has been vital in combating the spread of this infectious disease, especially in children.
Since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas War, 282,126 vials of the polio vaccine have been delivered to Gaza, with an additional 43,250 vials on the way. These vaccines are crucial in preventing further outbreaks and protecting over one million children.
COGAT, along with the Health Ministry, WHO, UNICEF, and USAID, continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure the virus is contained. In late July, the IDF began vaccinating all soldiers in Gaza as part of a comprehensive effort to eliminate the disease from the region.
