Lebanon’s Minister of Tourism, Walid Nassar, in an exclusive interview with Al-Masry Al-Youm, blamed regional tensions on Israel’s assault on Gaza. Despite the challenges, Nassar emphasized Lebanon’s unity, strong economy, and hope for peace through diplomatic means. Lebanon is waiting for international intervention to calm tensions and end the war.
The tourism sector has been impacted by the ongoing conflict, but Lebanon remains economically stronger than Israel. Tourist numbers show Lebanon attracting more visitors than Israel, with the economy performing significantly better. The current losses in the tourism sector have not exceeded five percent, contributing to around 40 percent of Beirut’s GDP.
Looking ahead, Nassar remains optimistic, highlighting Lebanon’s improved defense capabilities and unity with the army and resistance against the occupier. He reaffirmed hopes for the liberation of Lebanese lands in 2024, pointing out Israel’s failure in past conflicts. Despite the challenges, Nassar sees potential for economic recovery and a decrease in hesitation towards visiting Lebanon once the conflict ends.
