Kyiv Oblast entrepreneur indicted for selling subpar drones to military, pocketing $140,000

In a recent development, Bohdan Dovbysh, the head of Dronika, has been charged with embezzling 5.7 million hryvnias ($138,157) in state funds by supplying substandard drones to the military. The investigation revealed that Dovbysh allegedly organized a scheme to seize budget funds through the procurement of drones for the Defense Forces. Despite winning tenders for the purchase of FPV drones, it was discovered that the drones delivered were of lower quality and cheaper than specified, leading to the misappropriation of funds.

Law enforcement officers have indicted Dovbysh for misappropriating funds on a large scale, which could result in a 12-year prison sentence, a ban on certain activities, and property confiscation. Dronika LLC, under Dovbysh’s management, has secured contracts with a total value of 25.4 million hryvnias ($668,249) from state customers. Moreover, Dovbysh is associated with other legal entities and charitable foundations, raising concerns about the company’s practices. This case underscores the importance of stringent oversight in government procurement processes to prevent corruption and ensure accountability.
