Israel supports US proposal in ‘final’ opportunity for Gaza ceasefire

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that Israel has accepted a US proposal for a Gaza truce deal, urging Hamas to do the same. Blinken, during his ninth visit to the Middle East since the conflict began, met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who confirmed Israel’s support for the proposal.

Blinken emphasized the importance of Hamas also accepting the proposal, which was put forward after talks in Qatar. He stated that this moment is crucial for achieving a ceasefire and bringing about lasting peace and security in the region.

Despite months of negotiations with different mediators, an agreement has not been reached between Israel and Hamas. Blinken is set to continue ceasefire discussions in Egypt and Qatar.

Amidst these talks, a rare bombing occurred in Tel Aviv, claimed by the armed wings of Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Despite the setbacks, there is still hope for a ceasefire as the US, Qatari, and Egyptian mediators report progress.

The devastation in Gaza is dire, with the health system under immense pressure. The UN has a vaccination plan ready to go once a ceasefire is achieved.

The world is watching as efforts continue to bring an end to the conflict and pave the way for peace in the region.
