Israel bombards Gaza as ceasefire negotiations persist

Last month, Israeli airstrikes on Yemen’s Hodeidah port were condemned by Human Rights Watch as potentially constituting a war crime. The attack targeted Houthi military sites but resulted in significant civilian casualties, including at least six deaths and 80 injuries. This airstrike followed a drone attack by Houthi rebels on Tel Aviv, which also raised concerns of war crimes. The retaliatory strikes on Hodeidah destroyed oil facilities, shipping infrastructure, and a power plant, causing widespread harm to civilians.

Human Rights Watch stated that these actions appeared to be disproportionate and in violation of international laws of war. Deliberate or reckless attacks on civilians and civilian objects are considered war crimes. The escalating conflict between Israel and Houthi rebels has raised alarms about the humanitarian impact on Yemen’s civilian population. The international community urges all parties involved to adhere to the laws of war and protect civilian lives.
