In a recent radio interview, Cheon Won, the floor leader of the Reform New Party, expressed support for including suspicions of opposition-led “tip-off operations” in the scope of the investigation under the “Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Act.” This statement came in response to a proposal by Han Dong-hoon, the leader of the main opposition People Power Party, and Cheon remarked that it would be beneficial to include such allegations.
Cheon elaborated further, suggesting that including these additional elements would potentially lead to an increase in the number of special prosecutors assigned to the case. Despite acknowledging that there may be some political maneuvering involved, Cheon emphasized that fundamentally, there would be nothing wrong with broadening the scope of the investigation.
Han Dong, in a previous statement, had indicated a willingness to incorporate recent reports of “tip-off operations” into the investigation, reflecting internal and external opinions within the party.
Overall, it seems that Cheon Won’s strategic thinking involves a mix of asserting the party’s position and potentially causing divisions within the opposition, which he sees as a calculated move to navigate the political landscape.
