GOP’s Misleading Description of OH Redistricting Reform

Ohio Ballot Measure Faces Criticism for Misleading Description

Proponents of an Ohio constitutional ballot measure are calling out Secretary of State Frank LaRose for crafting a lengthy, inaccurate, and biased description of the proposal. The measure, supported by Citizens Not Politicians, aims to establish a 15-member Ohio Citizens Redistricting Commission to end gerrymandering and ensure fair political boundaries. LaRose’s description exceeds three pages and misrepresents the amendment, claiming it would repeal voter protections and contradict past election results.

Despite these flaws, the Ohio Ballot Board approved the description, sparking outrage among supporters of the measure. Critics point out the misinformation and disingenuous language used in LaRose’s explanation. Common Cause Ohio and attorney Don McTigue denounced the false and prejudicial statements and vowed to challenge the approval in the Ohio State Supreme Court.

The fight for accurate and fair representation continues as advocates seek to rectify the misleading description and promote transparency in the ballot process.
