Colombian President Gustavo Petro signed a presidential decree to ban coal exports to Israel, aiming to pressure the Israeli government to end the war on Gaza.
The decree, effective next week, seeks to halt the use of Colombian coal in manufacturing bombs that harm Palestinian children, as stated by Gustavo Petro on Twitter.
Tense Relations
Colombia’s ban on coal exports to Israel follows its participation in an ICC request to issue arrest warrants for top Israeli and Hamas officials, denouncing the Israeli Prime Minister as “genocidal.”
Hamas lauded Colombia’s move and urged other countries to impose sanctions on Israel, applauding Petro’s decision to sever diplomatic ties with Israel and prosecute its leaders as war criminals.
