Former Obama advisor David Axelrod warned against complacency regarding Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday, suggesting that ex-President Trump could still be ahead in the key swing states that will determine the outcome of the election. Axelrod noted that it remains a close race, with Trump potentially leading if the election were held today.
A recent survey by Ipsos revealed that Harris and Trump are neck and neck in seven swing states, with Harris at 42% and Trump at 40%. Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy garners 5% of the vote share in these crucial states.
Despite Harris’ initial strong showing, Axelrod emphasized the importance of not underestimating the Electoral College battle, especially in pivotal battlegrounds. He stressed that Democratic enthusiasm must translate into active participation to secure victory.
With concerns over inflation and immigration dominating voter sentiment in the swing states, the landscape remains uncertain. Axelrod highlighted the shifting dynamics since the Republican National Convention, underscoring the need for sustained effort and engagement from the Democratic camp.
