Get ready for another possible strike action as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a notice to the federal government. The decision was made at the end of the association’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the University of Ibadan.
The union is giving the government a 21-day notice before embarking on the strike, citing demands such as the non-implementation of the 2009 re-negotiated agreements. Despite Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman’s invitation to discuss the issues, ASUU remains dissatisfied with the lack of progress.
ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke highlighted the non-payment of academic allowances and a need for revitalization funds to upgrade universities. He also expressed concern over the proliferation of universities without adequate funding.
With unresolved issues dating back over six years, ASUU is prepared to take action if the government fails to address their demands. Stay tuned for updates on this developing situation.
