The social media giant, X (formerly Twitter), has suspended operations in Brazil after alleged threats from a Brazilian top judge. Justice Alexandre de Moraes ordered the suspension of accounts linked to right-wing figures, prompting Elon Musk’s company to refuse compliance, leading to the closure of their Brazilian office. Moraes reportedly threatened legal action against an employee if the company did not adhere to the court’s orders.
In response, X announced the closure of operations to protect its staff, with Musk criticizing Moraes for his actions. The Supreme Court refused to comment on the situation, and Moraes has previously warned social networks about obeying judicial orders. Despite the shutdown of operations, the platform will remain accessible to Brazilian users.
Musk, who acquired Twitter and rebranded it as X, condemned Moraes as a disgrace to justice and rejected the alleged censorship demands. The decision to close the office was a response to what Musk called secret censorship and privacy violations.
